Every year we have to take riding mower battery to be charged after sitting all winter or end up having to buy a new one, this solar panel was a game changer for real. I was thinking no way in heck is this little panel going to charge the battery. We set it up it comes with really long cables and great suction cups to hang it, the mower is in a shed so we could connect it to the battery and use the long cables and suction cups to hang the solar panel outside the shed facing the most sunny hours. Ok to my surprise after a few days because we had lot of overcast for few days and rain the mower worked, no trip to get it charged and no new battery needed. Now I’m thinking I may need another one for my car just for emergencies because hubby is not letting this one out of his sight. Works like it says, would definitely recommend this for purchase.

it works well

I didn’t expect this to work well. I had it on a car that was out waiting for work. I simply hooked up to the battery put it on the hood as the wire was long enough. It received afternoon sun. The wind blew it into the rocks to no avail. A year later the battey was still up and cranked the engine over to start. I’m still using it as needed.

Have a vehicle that doesn’t get used much and looking for an alternative to a typical AC float charger. As a solar panel it does work. But even if positioned optimally peak output is only ~400mA (6W), and ~200mA at ~30°. And at ~45° a mere 10mA. Don’t bother mounting it inside a vehicle since any decent auto glass blocks much of the UV. This is true of any brand solar panel though.
Shape is also completely different than what’s pictured. Actual size is aprox the same as a US license plate. For the cigarette port adapter there is an LED which is ALWAYS active. With no internal diode that’s another 5mA parasitic draw through the night which would negate any of the charging it did during the day (if any). If you needed to use it I’d just remove the LED, already has indicators on the panel’s controller so it’s redundant anyway. Charge controller is mounted on the back which greatly reduces it’s mounting options. The charge controller should have been in-line on the cable externally.
So it doesn’t function inside the car. Very limited options to mount it outside due to the wart on the back.

I have accessory’s plugged into my truck and it has a slow drain so sometimes I have to jumpstart it. I leave this on the dash in hopes of keeping the battery charged enough to not need a jumpstart. It’s been raining a lot so I haven’t had a chance to see if it’ll actually work, but it seems to be built well but it’s definitely on the Chinese cheapside

The advertised dimensions of the panel were said to be 11.02″D x 12.6″W x 0.79″H.
That would be roughly 138.6 square inches.
The panel they sent me has a sticker on the box claiming 10W output, but the panel measures only 7″ x 14″; which is roughly 98 square inches.
138.6 / 98 = 1.414
10 watts / 1.414 = 7.07
That is why you cannot get any more than 7 watts out of this panel; even in the blistering southern Alabama sun. I was hoping for the 10 watt panel that I actually ordered, because of windshield glass and cloudy weather losses.
With clouds drifting across the sun, I saw only 20 to 40 milliamps of charge. But as the full power of the sun was exposed, this charger pushed 0.53 amperes at 12.85 volts into this mostly-charged 50Ah battery here. That is enough power to top up the charge within 25 minutes or so, on a sunny southern day. Let’s say you make a short (5 minute) trip up to the store, then you start the car again to drive the 5 minutes back home. This charger should be able to do the job the alternator had insufficient time to do. Hopefully this [undersized panel] charger here will be enough to carry the load, behind the rear windshield glass. (as in .095 ampere photo in partial clouds)
As the battery voltage approaches 13 volts, this charger begins to dramatically throttle itself down. By the time the battery floats up to 13.1 volts or so – the charger delivers barely any current at all, even in full sun, just as it should do (as in the final photo). If you then momentarily throw a small load on the battery (let’s say 8 ohms [roughly 1.5 amps]) – the voltage will fall down below the threshold at 12.9 volts or so, and the charger kicks back into high gear for a bit. Then it eases back off and floats the battery @ 13.1 or so. It’s a beautiful thing to watch.
You might be able to get up to the 14.4 volt absorption voltage on a small motorcycle battery, but this charger is way too small to push a car battery that hard. Anyway, this float charge is much better than leaving the battery sitting there partially depleted for days on end; .707 times advertized screen size notwithstanding.
I just wish I’d get refunded for the reduced panel size, and resultant unavoidable power loss. I paid for a panel 1.414 times larger than what they sent. $32.39 minus (.707 * $32.39) equals $9.49 refund. I’ll report back and let you know if I receive it.

I have 2 cars parked on non op at someones house and check on these cars up to a month at a time. Cars fire right up everytime! Never any hesitation. These keep my batteries charged very well and for the price you cannot go wrong!

I went to the lake for the weekend to fish for sockeye I forgot a radio so used my boat radio while on land to stop battery from dieing pulled this out hooked it up to the battery first day loved it kept battery full all day next day though had to move it and noticed the glue had failed between charger and solar panel so tried to be gentle with it but unfortunately by the end of the day it had completely failed to keep the battery fully charged
