NICE Locking Gas Cap! The photo doesn’t show it, but it has a nice little chrome-like cover that pivots over the keyhole to help keep it clean. Better yet is the DOUBLE-CUT key feature, which ensures the key will never be upside down when you are trying to open the cap late at night in a dimly lit gas station. To unlock this cap, first you rotate a pivoting chrome-like key cover counter-clockwise 90 degrees to reveal the keyhole. The cover “clicks” into place – Nice! Next place the DOUBLE-CUT key in the keyhole slot and rotate it counter-clockwise. You rotate the cap about 180 degrees and the cap is removed. To lock the cap follow the steps in reverse. Rotate cap clockwise until it clicks. Rotate the key clockwise and remove it. Lastly rotate the keyhole cover clock-wise over the keyhole, and it “clicks”into place. Remember that all UN-locking procedures involve a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE motion, while all LOCKING motions involve a CLOCKWISE motion. You can use this cap as a non-locking gas cap if you wish, simply by not turning the key to lock it. (I’ll bet that the average person sees a keyhole on a locking gas cap and ASSUMES that it is locked!) I searched for a long time until I found this model with double-cut keys, and was doubly pleased to see the keyhole cover. (This model fits my 2010 Nissan Frontier) Yes, this cap might cost you a few dollars more, but every time that you open the lock in a dimly lit location, you’ll pat yourself on the back for making such a wise choice.

This fit my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport (XJ) perfect. You can lock it in place and the gas cap will just spin but will not screw off. If you unlock it, it works just like the original gas cap. So, if you are travelling and stopping for gas several times, you can just leave it unlocked. Then when you get to your destination you can lock it up. Great product for the money.

Fits my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 4×4. I haven’t had any problems with this cap. Fits correctly & the keys are solid & strong. It won’t stop anyone who wants the gas. But, it will definitely slow them down or deter them. Makes it tougher for thieves to not take the time to bother with it. Keep a key with truck Keys & keep the other one in a safe place. Motorad is a good product if not the best on locking caps. It’s designed for my vented tank so no engine codes. If you get a code it’s not properly installed or it’s the gas or fuel filter. I always use a higher octane in my vehicles & lawnmower. This truck is not designed for ethanol fuel.

It seems pretty well made and I liked the smoothness of the locking mechanism. However, within an hour of installing the cap, my check engine light came on. I replaced it with the OEM cap and shortly afterwards the light went off.
The seal around the shaft of the cap, seems a little soft and flimsy to me. Clearly it isn’t doing an adequate job of providing a solid seal. I thought about trying to put a different o-ring in it to see if that would help. But, brand new and for over $20, let them troubleshoot their own problems. I simply returned the cap.

I bought 2 of these for different vehicles and they both fit…no problems. One thing I like about these is that when you travel you don’t have to lock & unlock it each time you use gas. I just leave it unlocked while I’m on the road then lock it whenever I get to when I’m going. Since I like this feature so much I think I might replace the old locking gas caps on one of my another vehicles.

It also has a cheap plastic key cover flap that is really flimsy. (Looks metal, is plastic)

Gas cap works Awesome and it was even delivered early …The only issue is that the Product was left at the building beside us and not mine…
This could have been an issue but the person that received the product brought it to us when they realized it was for us or a different address.

Purchased to discourage easy theft of my vehicle fuel while I’m not attending it. I drive a Jeep Wrangler so there is no lockable body door to deny fuel theft on the outside of the vehicle. This seems to work easily and fits the filler tube opening well. Time will tell if it does/doesn’t kick on the “check engine” warning icon on the dash instrument panel. Be sure to squirt some Tri-Flo or other Teflon based lubricant into the key opening as this will make the key/pin interaction much smoother. I went to the locksmith and had a couple extra keys made even though two keys are supplied. When locked the cap freewheels counterclockwise while any attempt is made to remove it from the filler tube. The dustcap over the key opening (not shown) will do it’s job if gently swung to the side without a lot of force. Would buy again.
