I’m updating this review after seven months due to a problem I experienced which forced me to replace this starter. see the end of the review for the update
ORIGINAL REVIEW
I’ve had this starter in my 2005 Odyssey for about a week now and it is working fine. It seems powerful and starts the vehicle quickly. The sound difference that some people mention can best be described that it has a little higher pitch than the original starter, but that is fine.
There is a minor difference in the layout of the solenoid on this starter, the connections are in different positions than the original. This presents a minor inconvenience when installing the starter, but it can be overcome. The connector for the positive lead from the battery on this starter sits extremely close to the transmission dip stick, this prevents you from attaching the lead if you have the starter already bolted in place. I found that if you attach that lead before bolting down the starter all the way it is easier to install. You can also loosen the bracket for the dipstick and use some leverage to slightly bend the dipstick away from the starter solenoid. The added clearance this will give you makes installation easier and allows me to worry less about potential shorts due to vibration and degrading rubber connector covers. This starter is priced well and if proves durable and lasts a while, then it is definitely worth getting even with the minor installation inconvenience.
UPDATED REVIEW
After about seven months we noticed the starter began to make some screeching noises at the end of the start like it was still hitting the gears when it should not. The problem did not go away and a few times we had a failed start. We decided to replace the starter since I feared it may be doing some damage to the vehicle. After I got the starter out I could see some wear on the teeth of the starter pinion gear and some wear on the engine flywheel as well. Inside the engine I also notices tiny metal shavings. Evidently what was happening is that the solenoid was not retracting fully or quickly enough on many of these starts and was rubbing against the flywheel causing the wear and screeching sounds. I knew this starter was made in China and figured that was the reason it had some of its quirks since manufacturing there is not always up to the same standards as that of other nations. Nevertheless, I had hoped this starter would have been more reliable even though it sounded a bit different and the connections were arranged differently, but unfortunately my experience ended up being similar to many of those who have given other negative reviews. Thankfully I got this starter out and replaced before it could do more damage to our vehicle. I originally gave this starter four stars, but I am now rating it as one star due to the problems I mentioned. I would not recommend getting this starter. Now I have gotten a more expensive rebuilt OEM starter – It went in more easily and the new new starter sounds like the original one now.

I wasn’t sure if my 2000 Honda Odyssey EX was having a starter motor issue after eliminating other causes–took the old motor off and tested it in the garage, and it appeared to be functioning fine. But on the chance it had some bad spots in the motor (with 175k miles and 24 years on it!), I bought this part–it was so inexpensive I figured why not. Well it arrived to my door in less than 24 hours, and went on the car in about 10 minutes, and CAR WORKS! 🙂 I said “nearly identical” because note the slightly different placement of the terminals–the big, bare nut is where the battery cable goes, of course, and the small spade terminal is a little farther away than it was on the original part, so I had to pull and bend the wire a bit to get it to the new location, but that was trivial. Couldn’t rate longevity, check back in a year. 🙂

Bought and replaced starter myself in June 2022. Starter still working great. Happy with the product.

This starter is mechanically identical to the OEM starter that it replaced. The only difference is the location of the main power post. On the OEM starter, the post is toward the front of the vehicle and away from the transmission dipstick. This starter has the power post on the opposite side, very near to the transmission dipstick. Be sure to bolt the power cable onto the starter, before installing the starter. Otherwise, installing the power wire bolt will be very difficult.
Performance: vehicle starts very quickly. Great replacement, great price. 2 17mm bolts hold the starter on and they are very tight. Be sure to have a good quality breaker bar. I used a 1/2” breaker bar with a 1/2” extension and a 17mm socket to fit.

Inspected the starter before assembly. Noticed right away that the solenoid positive post was located closer to the transmission than the OEM starter. I lined up the starter on the mounting holes and it was too close to the transmission dipstick. So I had to adjust the dipstick tube to the right so the positive terminal would not make contact with it. The starter bolted right up and has been working great. This is on a 2007 Honda Accord EX with a 3.0 v6 and auto trans with 235k on the OEM starter!

There were a few differences from the OEM starter, the orientation of the starter terminal and switch terminal were swapped so I had to stretch it pretty much as far as it could go. It was a tight fit with the transmission dipstick almost in the way. The nut on the terminal was also a little bit larger than OEM. Otherwise, this worked amazingly and actually has a pretty cool startup noise. I’d buy it again!
