Drilled a small hole through the middle bottom of cap and tank works perfect. Do not drill all the way out the top of the red twist cap on top and then you open and close the red cap to vent properly and then to be able to seal for transport.
Moeller is great about thier warranty. I had a flaw in a 6 gal tank (small leak) and even though it ruined a day on the lake, Moeller came correct and replaced the tank. Do not blame this company for the stupid EPA cap. Instead look at the overpriced OEM stuff and realuze this is a great deal.

Awesome built in reserve ridge built in so if you run dry you can tip the tank over a bit and have some gas left.
Really sturdy plastic and compact shape fits great in my little boat.
Deep though by Jack Handy:
Why is the 3gallon can as expensive or more as the 6 gallon can even though it is half the material??

Fit perfectly in the space for the gas tank on my just purchased used, 2001 Lowe 170 bass boat. It came with a 6 gal. tank and a 50 hp outboard, I run the Mississippi river and fish it extensively, 6 gal. was just not enough fuel, just a little over a hours run time. This doubled my time on the water, so double the pleasure, double the fun lol.
I have not had any problems with the tank as others have had. Yes it does swell and expand when it gets hot because it contains all the fumes instead of releasing them as the old tanks did. I have one summer of use on the tank now with no problems at all. My tank does get exposure to the sun, but only partially as it is 90% under the lift open access cover at the back of my boat, so the heat on it is not as severe as a fully exposed tank would be.
I am completely satisfied with this tank.

I knew this going in, but I tried it anyway and…..it sometimes worked. I am running a water pump in a pasture and get tired of refueling the small tank every hour. I purchased this to locate well above the engine to gravity feed to the carburator so it could run unattended for several hours. I also purchased a hand primer bulb, an inline gas fuel filter, and a fuel shut off ball valve. In short, the engine would die after about 15 minutes. I noticed that the fuel filter (clear plastic) was empty, so I tried pre-flooding it and locating it at the bottom of a loop to keep it flooded. The engine would still stop after a while. I noticed the primer bulb was empty when I went to prime, so thinking that a check valve was bad I removed it. The engine still died. I made sure that all components were flooded with gas, that the hose (1/4″) would flow gas freely, and it still died. Conclusion: Micro bubbles in the hose and components that were impossible to completely remove would eventually migrate and gather in the hose at the top of the tank by engine vibration, and when enough accumulated to achieve the 1/4″ inside diameter of the hose, the “suction” was broken and the fuel would stop flowing. Once I managed to avoid this and it ran fine for hours, but it is nearly impossible to achieve. You need a tank with the outlet at the bottom for carburated engines, engines with fuel pumps that provide needed suction aren’t as affected. DOH!
Follow up: I purchased a wheel rim valve stem made of metal (has a gasket and holding nut so you can use it as a leakproof bulkhead fitting) and mounted it to the side of the tank near the bottom—it now runs flawlessly all day long. Not NFPA approved, but it now works!

Best gas tank for outboards, had one little problem with small leak from the lid and they promptly sent out not one but two new ones. That is good warranty service.

Good product, like any other portable tank it swells with hotter temperatures. Holds 13+ gallons

I bought two brand new moeller connectors too. On my new 2013 boat, someone stole the gas and tank only, cut the fuel line, this was a replacement tank.
This thing leaked almost as much gas as what was stolen from me. Worse it put gallons of gas in my 2013 clean boat hull, was worried the fumes were going to ignite so I manually cleared the hull.
The tanks leaked more.
Go it home after going to the car wash to clean the inside of my hull getting the gas out.
I was very irritated and inconvenienced and put in danger.
Because of the gas leak I missed a great weekend of fishing.
I had the wife call Amazon, which has the best customer service in the USA aside from the well known Wal Mart. Anyway, they sent me another gas tank and connectors. The 2nd new gas tank leaked too. I wanted a refund and Amazon granted that.
Good job Amazon. Moeller what’s up ????
The weird part is that the gas tank that was stolen was the exact Moellor gas tank that amazon sold me. The key point here is I bought the boat and tank through a boat dealer.
My second point is I believe they may be mass dumping on Amazon. Amazon told me they would screen the tanks in stock.
My final point is this was not worth saving a few bucks. Buy your tanks locally.
If you buy them online you might have to worry about getting blown up, getting a ticket for polluting, going to jail, losing a full weekend of catching fish and have to do everything twice.
I do not know if Moeller is a USA company but it would not surprise me that they are outside in USA and do not care if they cause these problems and have any concern about ruining our environment.

Fits perfectly in the Classic XL. Moved it to the center with a pair of straps and you can see the gauge and get at the filler cap easily. Batteries tuck neatly to the side.
Update 2025: still in great shape and working as expected. I replaced the gas cap with Moeller’s manually vented cap. Solved the tank blow up issue that the EPA approved cap could not. Just order the cap when you order the tank. You’ll thank me later.
