In the older cars, many did not have air conditioning. If there was a damp odor, just riding around with the windows down would cure it. Modern vehicles are much more aerodynamic and perform better with the windows closed. If you get a dp musty odor, it is difficult to get rid of it. The activated charcoal in this filter maintains healthier air quality. A great product for the price.

No complaints about the quality of the product. I put this in my 2017 Volt. Getting access to the filter behind the glove box was painful. Had to remove 5 screws and pry off a trim piece hoping not to break it. Once that is done it is really easy to install the filter. Just make sure you put it in the correct orientation. Then you have to button it all up. So, probably 15 minute job the first time, maybe 10 minutes for subsequent jobs.
In contrast, the cabin filter I put in our 2009 Sienna took about 30 seconds. The glove box on that is held up with a simple friction fit. Pinch the sides and gently ease it out and the cabin filter is right in front of you. ZERO tools required. I spent more time looking up how to do it in the manual than actually doing it.
So, kudos to Toyota for making that a VERY simple job. Smack upside the head to GM for making it so difficult.

Read below for my complete experience.
I purchased this filter for use in a 2016 V6 Chevy Colorado LT. The previous owner was a smoker. I ran a 7000 mg/h ozone generator after cleaning the interior thoroughly (vacuum, and dish-soap wipe down) for 30 minutes. The glove box must be removed for installation. I removed the dampener cord located on the right hand side of the glove box, and squeezed the sides of the glove box to lower it to the point I could access the filter housing. Some people remove the entire glove box by removing the plastic hinge pins at the bottom. Ether way it is pretty simple, even for a novice. The filter housing is retained by two clips that must be squeezed inboard (towards the center of the housing) and pulled away. The air flow originates from the top as indicated by the attached pictures (install the filter arrow pointing down towards the ground). Slide the old filter out and discard, and slide the new one in paying attention to the arrow on the side of the filter, and re-install the rest of the components in reverse order. The air flow in the cab may feel less intense, and this is because of the added activated carbon. The cost of “better” filtration, will nearly always result in reduced airflow. In my opinion the airflow is still well beyond adequate and keeps the cabin nice and cold with the added benefit of what is advertised as odor removal. After completing the ozone treatment and installing this filter, the cab of this truck smells brand spanking new. I couldn’t be happier.
