I read the reviews prior to ordering this air filter for my 2014 Ford Focus — and I thought “okay, yeah right, but whatever!” and decided to purchase it purely due to the cost savings down the road. To my surprise, I can definitely tell a difference — particularly from stop to 5mph. It feels much smoother now, as other reviews have stated with their Focus. If you have a Ford Focus with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, you know that it can be a bit jerky at slower speeds and in stop-and-go traffic. It’s just how the transmission works. If you know what I’m talking about, don’t hesitate to try this out! I really feel like it helps and is a great investment in terms of a long-lasting filter (remember to clean every 50,000 miles), but also for that particular transmission. This is coming from someone who isn’t a car person in the least bit — I can’t change my own oil, etc. My boyfriend installed this for me — he just took the 4 bolts off, popped it in, and covered it back up. It fit snug and he did have to push to get the filter cover back on, but nothing made it questionable… just was a bit “harder” due to it being a smaller space as other reviews have stated.
There’s no directions — just take the air filter top off, remove the paper filter, and pop this one in. K&N offers a life-time warranty on these! Read their site for more in-depth caring tips and otherwise.
One thing to note — my K&N Filter shipped from Amazon, but came in a Gatorade box (???) and the actual product box looked a little “old” as if it was sitting on a shelf for a while. The filter was brand new, but I found the shipment a bit bizarre. Amazon took care of it by crediting my account for $10 due to the confusion, but if yours comes in a similar state, don’t be dismayed.
Overall, VERY pleased! Amazon was the cheapest place that I found these, too… and with Prime shipping, it was a no brainer. It did take a few more days than usual Prime to prepare the shipment, but it still arrived rather quickly. A friend of mine ordered one and it was stuck in limbo, preparing for shipment, for 4 days. If you’re in a rush for it, just keep that in mind.
Good luck! I hope you experience the same as me!

Sehr gute Passgenauigkeit

Noticeable difference when taking off from stops – faster throttle response. Engine has slightly better grrr (it is a Focus 🙂 ). Allows for more umph when needing to pass – makes a cool growl. Installed in my 20yo step daughters car – the cylindrical shape and Fords compact filter box does make for a finicky install, but it’ll fit. The boob at Jiffy Lube that put the last cheesy filter in broke two of the screw mounts, but the lid still fit snug and stayed on. Can’t speak to gas mileage improvement (20yo daughter, remember- didn’t know her Focus had a digital speedometer, he he, love her), but the K&N filter on my Silverado definitely improves gas mileage on lengthy trips.

Here’s some tips that might help you install this in a 2012, 2013 Ford Focus. You’ll need a 7 mm socket and an extension for your ratchet. There’s four 7 mm screws that hold down the top of the airbox cover, and you’ll need the extension for two of them.
Once you get the screws loose you might have to jiggle the airbox cover to get it off. With the stock air filter, try lifting it up from the back before you try and pull it out, because the back cover of the filter fits in a groove at the bottom half of the airbox.
Before putting this new filter in, try slipping the top air box cover on it so you can see how the end cap of the filter slips into the groove. You’ve got to line it up perfectly and get it in the groove or you won’t be able to line up your screws when you put it back together.
When you put in this new filter stick the mouth part over the inlet pipe, reach down with your fingers and grab the bottom of the filter end cap, lift it slightly and push/slip it into the bottom groove of the airbox. Make sure the filter is properly inside that bottom groove. Then when you put the top half of the airbox cover on, slip the end cap of the filter into the groove first then set the cover down flat. All your screw holes should line up if you got that end cap properly in the grooves, top and bottom.
I had trouble lining everything up at first till I figured out how to get it properly in the grooves. It fits perfectly and was easy to install. It just took me a while to figure out the groove thing. But now that you know and if you focus on getting it in the grooves it will line up perfectly for you.
I haven’t driven the car yet, but it starts up fine, and idling and revving the engine in my parking stall it sounds smoother. Idle is rock solid stable and it seems more responsive to throttle. I love K&N filters so I’m kinda biased, they go in all my cars. But I really can tell the difference. It’s great. Take your time installing it and you’ll love it.
