Upon arrival this radio seemed okay quality and it was fairly easy to install, the screen isn’t the most responsive and occasionally getting CarPlay to work was a little tricky but the sound quality was good and getting it set up wasn’t too difficult. HOWEVER after only a few months of use the radio is completely unusable. The buttons randomly became unresponsive and the system randomly shuts on and off and the screen will randomly stop working. It’s been an absolute NIGHTMARE trying to get it replaced or fixed by the company or by asurion. I called BOSS and they wanted to put a hold on my card for over $130 more than what I paid originally to send me a new one. I wish I could give this zero stars. This experience has just been downright awful. Save your money and buy this from literally anyone else! There’s no reason a $200 product should break within 8 months of installing it.

Pros: Apple CarPlay works only over wire, not wirelessly, but works and connects well nonetheless. Bluetooth support is good, but I prefer Apple CarPlay due to better audio quality during calls. Microphone for hands free mode is sensitive and works well.
Cons: Backlighting for controls do not illuminate until you cycle the headlights on and off, dimmer function works well once headlights are cycled. Would have benefitted from volume knob. Volume +/- controls work, but without steering controls, they are small and flimsy. LCD touch screen sometimes does not respond at edge of display. Piano black finish attracts finger prints easily. Screen’s finish reflects surrounding during daytime (glare).
TLDR: Likely the best unit to get CarPlay and a built in amp under $125, but cost cutting is evident.
Update 6/21/24: Unit is now 9 months old, sometimes has trouble with Carplay disconnecting randomly while driving despite being wired connection. Sometimes, the car will start and the head unit does not let you enter the carplay menu. Apparently, calling someone over Apple Carplay means that they hear their own voice as an echo every time they speak. This does not happen over bluetooth call audio, but the voice quality is much lower. Over time, other misc. glitches have become more common although they can be solved by cycling the ignition. I have not encountered the issue some people have complained of where the screen turns white rendering the unit unusable. Buyers beware, you are cheaping out by buying this unit, but at $130, for someone just wanting to try out a head unit for the first time this wasn’t a bad option. Corners have very obviously been cut though.
Update 9/23/24: Despite other reviews saying the “screen stops working after a few months,” my unit is still working well. There was a time when the bluetooth menu started spam prompting me (a glitch probably), so I just turned bluetooth completely as I never used it much (audio quality is much worse over bluetooth). Otherwise, I think the value proposition is good, at least when I got it for $130 out the door. Unfortunate that audio distorts above volume 36 of 50, but compromises were made in the built-in amplifier in order to achieve the low entry point I suppose. In hindsight, and now that I value audio quality more, I wish I would have spent maybe 50-60 more for a Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony in order to avoid the distortion. Buyer Beware: although this is advertised as “4x85W,” there is no way that it outputs more than 15W RMS. Some reviewers have even opened up the unit to confirm this by inspecting the electronics inside. This makes sense when seeing that Sony units that cost upwards of $500-600 can only achieve 55W RMS.

I desperately needed some way to listen to music in my recently bought 2010 Genesis. It had no Bluetooth music and the aux did not work so I was stuck listening to the radio like old times. So I bought this one (I bought an off brand/Chinese one before this one but it did not fit and had to return it). Instantly changed my riding experience.
PROS
– Wireless or wired Apple CarPlay (I love it so much).
– All the features that come with Apple CarPlay. Music, navigation, etc. (I mostly just use it for Spotify).
– You now have a good quality double din stereo in your car that’s not stupidly expensive. That’s awesome by itself.
– Just looks good and boosts your driving experience.
CONS
– Has a little bit of half second delay when clicking anything.
– No knob to change volume. I seriously did not know that I would hate the + and – buttons for volume adjustment. It’s fine though, I just wished it had a knob.
– Not too big of a deal but I’ve had a couple of instances where it just restarts out of no where. Comes back to life in like 7 seconds like nothing happened.
– The mic it comes with is kinda trash. You’ll just have to yell at whoever you’re on the call with if your using hands free calling.
But that’s all the bad stuff. If you ask me, the pros heavily outweigh the cons.
I changed the stereo myself and I recommend to do heavy research before purchasing any stereo. For me, I had to buy like 3 separate things, 2 harnesses and a bezel, to install any stereo. YOU WILL NEED TO CUT WIRES AND CONFECT THEM. It’s not that hard though because the wires the stereo has are color coded and named to make connecting wires easy. 8/10 stereo

i bought this headunit for my 2011 golf.
the headunit itself is great, apple car play is wired and wireless, it’s got the option for 2 cameras (front and back), great sound, it’s fast for input (no lagging when you press a button) etc. a lot of great things i could say.
to keep it short, if you’re putting this headunit or any headunit similar to this in your VW, you’ll need to supply an external ignition source, or else the radio won’t turn off when you turn off your car, and there is no way to turn off the radio from the actual radio itself. you’ll need to wire into something else. this is where i’ve been having trouble. i’ve tried piggybacking off some fuses in the fuse box and ive had no luck. i’ve read a lot of articles saying you need to wire into the 12v cigarette lighter, which is what i’ll try next.
i’ll update if anything changes.
UPDATE :
i’ve fixed the issue, the piggyback worked. and i’ve been using it the last couple months, and genuinely for the price, 5 stars. i haven’t even used all of its capabilities (haven’t hooked up any cameras to it, it has 2 input for cameras !!) apple carplay is great, no issues! i love it 🙂 definitely recommend

Purchased a newer used Kia Optima and the Radio worked, but the screen for bluetooth, GPS and phone was damaged. Looked at several places and found this one here at a great price! It fits well, with the addition of the frames and wire kit purchased here, as well. It is so nice, clear sound, and fun to use, since my prior car did not have these features. It was a little bit of a challenge to install, but looks like it came with the car! My brother, that installed it, likes is so well, he is looking to purchase for his Kia. We recommend this!!
