  1. Amazon Customer

I have replaced all the coils on my 2002 F-150 Triton with these coils. I bought the truck used, and from what I’ve read, the stock coils are horrible and go bad quickly. I experienced this myself soon after I bought the truck. I bought 2 new stock coils and then replaced them with these and they seem to work just as well. I can’t speak for how long they last, but I’ve had them in for about 6 months and they are still running strong.

After looking at some of the local dealers and in parts stores for some Coil On Plug packs for my truck, I was finding a wide range of Coil On Plug packs made by different manufacturers and at different price points. Now the dealer ones are fine products, but I found to replace all 8 Coil On Plug packs was going to be very expensive.

After getting thru the sticker shock of the dealer priced Coil On Plug packs I started to search at various auto stores in my area. The auto stores carried a wide range of different manufacturers of Coil On Plug packs and of course they were at various price points which was to be expected. Being that this was the case, I did some searching online and found that there were various manufacturers and various price points as well with what I saw online. Some manufactures were the same as what I saw in the auto stores and some were manufacturers I never heard of.

So Now I had my information on the various manufacturers and their Coil On Plug packs gathered from online sources, in person sources and reviews, off to find some Coil On Plug packs I went and this is where the story took some twists and turns. At a few various different auto part stores I ran into supply issues from the bottom price ranged ones to the highest priced one, no store seemed to have all 8 of one type of manufacturer.

Now the employees at the various stores checked with other stores that are in the chain and this seemed to be a common theme, some had a few of some had none, some had one here and two at that location and none at that location but they could order it in. The top line expensive one where a similar issue, but they were pushing $70.00 per Coil On Plug pack and you do the math times 8 packs and that was pretty pricey and the sticker shock was a little too much for me.

So back online I went and found various manufacturers of Coil On Plug packs sold here at Amazon. After researching various reviews and looking at various manufacturers product and reading various Amazon customer reviews and experiences, I decided to give the Coil On Plug packs from OEM a try. Now these weren’t the most expensive, but they weren’t the cheapest either, but for the various Coil On Plug packs Amazon carries for sale by different manufacturers that these were more than a fair value and a good product for their price point and best of all I could get all 8 Coil On Plug packs from Amazon with shipping and still save myself some money.

I didn’t write this review right away because I wanted to give an accurate review of OEM’s Coil On Plug packs after I had them in my truck for a while. It has now been over 5 months since I installed these new Coil On Plug packs and new spark plugs and I have to say they are a top notch product and are working just as well as the original dealer installed ones that were initially on the truck at purchase.

I have had no misfires nor any instances of the truck running rough or seen any tell tale signs of spark plug or Coil On Plug packs issues that could occur with a change of with of these items in any vehicle. The product has been top notch and the price with shipping was a real deal and I didn’t have to wait for a week to get them and go and pick them up because my local auto parts store didn’t have them. It was simple as a few clicks here at Amazon and then waiting for the delivery to show up at my door and then get the project of changing the old ones to the new ones underway, and for the price these were at was more than fair.

So if your looking for a good deal on some Coil On Plug packs, don’t hesitate to give these ones a try, sure glad I did and my truck seems to agree with me.

Replaced #1 cylinder ignition coil on my 2000 Limited excursion 4×4 v10 and it worked great. My gas mileage went up 3mpg. I guess the problem was there for quite some time but no check engine light. Very happy with this purchase. Nice to have the x purring again. Runs smooth again. Guess it was due since I have 223,000 + miles on it. Great buy.

So I have an older Grand Marquis (98). Over the years I have had a few of these coils fail. The first time it happened I thought the engine was in terrible shape (bucking and snorting at idle, load, acceleration). When I diagnosed the ignition coil, and replaced the faulty one (there are 8, one per cylinder) I was thrilled the car went back to wonderfully smooth. Next time it happened (couple of years later) I thought it was a coil, and when replaced again all was better. The third time I had already bought a spare and swapped it out. I guess it would have made sense to ‘swap’ them all out, but at $45-$55 a pop (x 8) retail I was in no rush. Fast forward. I got ‘into’ Amazon and buy LOTS (most stuff now) from Amazon so when my car started bucking and snorting I knew it was the coil and ordered 2. I ordered this one and was impressed and pleased to see online competition had caused the price to be just over $21. I saw a set of 8 for seventy dollars! Although I considered buying a ‘set’ I was concerned it would be bad luck on my now 15 year old car! What I did was buy a second from another vendor so I would have a ‘spare’. I chose “fast shipping auto parts” to purchase the second ‘spare’ and was not concerned about shipping speed as the first purchase was prime and I would get it in 2 days. Well I got them BOTH on the second day, and still have my spare!

I can’t say how the lesser expensive one does as I have not even opened it (it was half this price), but the are so darn easy to change (all you need for a crown vic V8 is a 1/4″ driver/Ratchet to take off the engine cover, a 7MM socket screw type driver and about 5 minutes). It took longer to look up the code and figure which location was cylinder 3! (I think my code was p0303).

Anyway, 8 years ago I either had the local car place (auto zone) tell me the code (a check engine message shows up when the code is flagged by the system right after it runs rough as heck) and now my Garmin “EcoRouteHD” unit plugs in and when paired by bluetooth to a smartphone it tells me the code!

Who should buy this item? If you have gotten this far in your search to even know what this item is, you are likely to know where it goes. If you change your own oil (or have and or could) you will likely be able to swap out this unit.

If you do NOT know much beyond getting your hood open, buy the coil, find out the code# for free from a retail auto parts store, (most will do it as a service expecting to sell stuff based on a check engine light) and HAND the coil to a friend who is car savvy and tell them the cylinder number (In a CrownVic/Marquis cylinder one is the passenger side most forward, #2 is right behind it, #3 is behind that, #4 is the farthest rear cylinder on the Passenger side. Cylinder #5 is the drivers side front most location, #6 is behind it, #7 is behind that and #8 is the rear most cylinder on the driver’s side). The check engine code typically ends in a number that is (when it is a bad coil code) the cylinder location. Mine ended in 3 so I changed cylinder/coil #3 and FIXED!

  5. Jason Pittman

Used this on my navigator and so far running great. Well worth the price.

  6. Steven D. Richey

I needed one of these for my number four cylinder. I checked with several auto stores and these were around $45 to $50 at every one. I purchased three of them and changed out the bad one. Problem fixed. I drove a little over five hours yesterday and the truck ran like new. Now I have a good running truck and a couple spares if I have a problem in the future.
