I recently picked up a two pack of the Grime Grabber Detailing Super Plush Microfiber Wheel Brush on Amazon in order to improve the wheel cleaning of my car wash process. Previously, I was using nylon bristle brushes for the hard to reach places on my painted alloy wheels but clean Microfiber is a better for wheel cleaning efficiency while preventing scratches.
The shape of the brush head is a rectangle and tapered getting larger towards the handle – it’s shaped like a flattened carrot. It’s an unusual shape for a wheel brush and I like it!
Wheel cleaning is an important part of a car wash and usually where I start my car wash. It should be done often to prevent buildup of brake dust, dirt, and grime, on the wheels.
Here are the five steps I use for wheel cleaning before I move on and wash the rest of the car.
1) Spray the wheel with clear water. I use a 20 degree tip and my pressure washer to thoroughly remove any loose dirt and grime that might scratch the surface.
2) Apply a generous layer of soap with my foam cannon.
3) For each wheel, I sit down and clean with a Microfiber mitt which is only used on wheels and is rinsed in a dedicated wheel bucket.
4) Next, I use a Microfiber wheel brush to thoroughly clean all tight areas that the mitt did not reach. This is where the Grime Grabber Detailing Super Plush Microfiber Wheel Brush really shines!
5) Spray the wheel again with clear water to remove the soap and grime.
Repeat this process until all 4 wheels are clean. Rinse and clean the brushes often with the pressure washer. I do this after cleaning every wheel so I start each wheel with a clean brush.
After the wheels are clean, I Wash the rest of the car from the top down and use dedicated bucket for rest of the car.
XCR –
These are an okay brush for wheels. Not amazing, but not terrible either. If you have tight spokes, it may not work super well for you, as there is a pretty dense foam core that doesn’t compress super easily. As long as your spokes are at least a couple of inches apart, it will probably work pretty well for you, but it will definitely leave some fibers behind.
The rubber disc doesn’t stay in place either, and it smells really unpleasant at first. Kind of annoying. I just cut it off.

Seems like a good little brush and it was a good price, so I’m not mad at it, but I ordered the two pack and only got one brush. Not complaning, just saying.

I like washing my own car, I’ve got a little soft wheel brush but it doesn’t get in all the nooks & crannies so I picked up a two pack of these.
They’re not the sturdiest things, basically a stiffer foam core with feathery microfiber fluff on the outside. Even though they look like a feather duster, they’re only useful wet. They do a good job of getting in those pesky corners. I go in with them after I use the wheel brush as they are not great for the flat parts of the wheel.
The stitching is coming apart at the top of one already, I’m sure these won’t last forever but they’re a cheap two pack and they do get in where a brush doesn’t.
Shrimp –
These wheel brushes fit the bill with reasonable quality for a good price, and that’s why I got the six pack. Sure, there may be some tiny tufts of the microfiber come out during use but not enough to make a difference in the way they clean. I pre-washed mine to get rid of any manufacturing chemicals so they could be as adsorbent as possible. They do hold a good amount of water on the way to the wheel and through usage before the next dip into the bucket. They do wash out fairly cleanly in microfiber detergent after use, with the exception of tar or grease, which no microfiber wants to let go of.
The core of the brush is twisted wire into a dense foam block which measures roughly 1 3/4″ x 1″ x 7 1/2″. The microfiber sleeve is tied closed over that. I was able to bend one brush’s core close to a right angle to get behind spokes of one of the car’s wheels and it has worked fine that way. The other brush for that car was left straight to do the majority of the face cleaning. Colored zip ties on the handles easily identify which vehicle that brush pair is to be used on.
Out of all the brushes, two will be used to apply and spread a spray sealant on the wheels after cleaning. These brushes are only used for that purpose.
If you have done any research on wheel brushes you are no doubt aware that they can be very expensive. Having a couple of those higher end brushes I can say that while they may have a thicker microfiber cover and a bendable body, they don’t warrant the price you have to pay when there are brushes like this available. And you’ll cry less if you get non-removable schmutz on one of these and have to toss it. I can surely recommend these brushes.

– I was hoping this would really get into the tight nooks and crannies of my wheels, but unfortunately it doesn’t. I still had to use a rag to get in there and clean the corners.
– We did use this on the car itself to clean though, which worked pretty well.
