This is my second roll of the 3M protective edge material. I first applied it to my wifes vehicle 7 years ago, its still holding up, no issues, still looks good. I’ve used it on 3 more vehicles until i ran out, i will say, use it as soon as you can, within a reasonable time period, i did see a small issue with the adheasive on my last truck, but the roll was 4+ years old at that time. Make sure the application site is perfectly clean, and dry, take your time, the product is pretty easy to use. If you’ve never applied anything like this before, watch a few youtube video’s before starting.

the tape was cut from another wider roll. It sems that it was manually cut. The edges are a bit jagged.
The width of the tape is a bit to narrow for taping around the edges of car doors, hoods etc. The use of overlapping the tape seems like a must to get the best protection.

These are the clear headlights wrap from vivvid. I have a partial roll of the headlights wrap and it’s the same as the edge sealer. They cut it into small roll and sell it as an edge sealer, that’s why the edge are ROUGH and it’s not straight. Its cheaper to buy the headlights film from vivvid. After wrapping the headlights, you still have left over or if you have a partial roll, just cut it into the size that you need for the edge and the edges are clean and straight. If I knew that, it is the same as the headlights wrap. I would of use the partial headlights wrap I have instead. I Could have got a 2 for 1 deal, instead of buying separate…

True, there was some roughness in the first two inches, but the rest was fine. Went on easily, stretched around bends, and otherwise went on without a hitch.

You can pretty much count on almost all 3M products to work well, this is no exception. It does a good job of sealing and protecting edges of painted car parts that are prone to nicks and scratches like the edges of the trunk where rings from fingers can scratch the paint. It also works very well for sealing edges of wrapped vinyl for the same reasons. It is essentially 3M’s Scotchguard Paint Protection Film (aka “Clear Bra”) only in a 1/2″ width.

I read the reviews before buying so I knew I’d be getting a subpar quality product, but I just wanted a cheap, easy, and predictable fix for my personal car. Because of that, it met expectations. The width is inconsistent and there are some “loose” edges, but for someone wanting to give their wrap job a little extra help, it’s not bad.
My main problem areas were: the hatchback inlay, rocker panel, wheel well, and some stray pieces I over cut on (this was my first wrap be nice). As I suspected, the wheel well didn’t last long, but that’s mainly my fault as I couldn’t figure out a good way to “tuck” the vinyl, both times with the normal and clear lol. The rocker panels worked perfectly. We will see how long this lasts, but it’s already visually much better and the tape blends in very well. That’s something I don’t mind doing once a month instead of replacing that huge strip of vinyl 😂
Now, the hatchback is a different story all together. I had to do an inlay and where the normal back bumper piece connected, it was lifting. So I slapped on this clear vinyl along the whole seam. This is the only place on the car, I feel, the tape shows up painfully obviously. It’s just a dirty part of the car, but dirt and mud just collects there even worse than before. The first photo (taken after a rain storm) is that problem area with the clear vinyl on top. It’s doing the job, just at the cost of a “second” seam. The second photo is the bottom of the hatch – also taken after a rain storm – and the dirt build up is obvious, this was after wiping it away with a rag! It’s liveable, I don’t have a nice car that people are going to look closely at, but if I did, I would not use this tape at all.

Most tape and roll products are manufactured on long rolls, sometimes exceeding several feet in length, and then cut down to various widths. Unfortunately, the edges of this product appear to have been cut poorly from the parent roll, resulting in jagged edges. Furthermore, debris such as lint, masking material, and other contaminants were inadvertently introduced under the edge of the film, making them noticeable upon installation. For a superior product experience, I recommend opting for genuine 3M products
