I have a 625 MCA (Marine Cranking Amps) deep cycle 12V flooded battery (~1 year old) connected to a solar controller I use in the shed to power security cameras. Being winter and often overcast, the solar panels can struggle to keep the battery topped off at times. I occasionally bring the battery to the house to charge properly if needed. The solar controller does have settings to prevent battery damage from deep discharge (shuts off the load below a defined voltage). Since the battery could use a charge, I thought I’d give this charger a try.
Using a battery tester, the internal resistance of the deep cycle battery measured 7.8 milliohms. with a 98% charge and a health of ~70%. Not the best, probably due to some minor sulfation but definitely not bad.
Since this battery charger claims to perform ‘desulfation’, I decided to give it a try. After the charger was placed on the battery, the charge indicator was green, but rather dim. Clearly not as bright as the power LED. Was it charging or not?
Being an electrical engineer, I decide to grab my oscilloscope and a clamp on current probe (intended to be used on an oscilloscope) and check the voltage and current. I just didn’t see anything happening with respect to current or voltage. Granted, the current probe has 20KHz bandwidth limit but I would have thought I would have seen a perturbation in the voltage. I left the charger on for awhile and retested the battery – same results.
I connected a different charger that has a dedicated desulfation mode and after some time elapsed, the internal resistance went from 7.8 milliohms to 7.3 milliohms. The battery was headed in the right direction.
The Amazon listing mentions ‘Desulfator’ in the title but not in the manual, nor is there a dedicated desulfation mode. So the manufacture is leaving me in the dark w/respect to what is really going on, if anything, with desulfation.
Some additional comments:
The charger does not have a UL or ETL listing mark.
Battery clamps are quite small, better suited for a garden tractor battery post, etc.
The charging cable is rather short at ~83”.
The manual, despite not mentioning desulfation, is written rather well.
3 year warranty
In the end, I have some reservations. As a charger for smaller batteries (i.e. garden tractor, motorcycle, etc.), it’s probably well suited. For an auto/marine battery that need a little TLC (desulfation), I’m going to give it a pass.

This charger is very convenient for maintaining the charge on our RV battery (Optima Blue Top D31M AGM). I have a bigger Schumacher battery charger that does a great job, but it has a much bigger footprint. This battery charger comes with both alligator clips and ring terminals. I found both the alligator clips and the ring terminals to be too small for standard battery terminals, but they work well with the 5/16” studs. The unit has a simple interface, allowing you to select 6v or 12v for your particular battery, and it has two LEDs to indicate that it is plugged and powered on and charge status (charging or charged). As you can see in the pictures, our battery started at 12.84v (Ecoboxx not plugged in), after about 2hrs 20 minutes, the charger’s 1A output topped off the battery to 13.45v (Ecoboxx not plugged in). Overall I’m a happy camper with this trickle charger. I will try it next on our lawn tractor battery that has been sitting for most of the winter and see if it will bring it to a full charge. More to follow, but for now 4 stars as a trickle charge and maintainer, but I can’t verify the repair mode claimed by the manufacturer.

I used this to top off our AGM battery in our Expedition and it worked well. No sparks when connecting and it topped off the battery in our garage overnight. Checked the voltage and all good. Very simple and to the point. Not sure about all of the other things it says it does as I don’t have a way to verify it, but as a simple trickle charger it worked well.

A low-current charger, trickle charger and maintainer with some ambition. I was initially under the impression that it would be suited to maintain lithium batteries, but beware, this is only for lead-acid batteries. For these, it works as expected, and I found it adequate to maintain two 12V lead-acid AGM 75 Ah which I keep on stand-by, usually disconnected, for use as emergency power. After trying it, I decided to purchase its larger brother, which indeed takes care of more types of batteries equally well. Worth the money, if you care for your (expensive) batteries.
