Ordered this a replacement cap for my 2010 Mini Cooper S. I read the reviews saying it wasn’t the original gas cap. When I received it, it was different then the original, however it is an original part, just a redesign. I actually like the way this new cap closes and it make a firm “click” to let you know its closed. Its been on the car for a good 3k miles now and no issues.

This is a gas cap that will keep the gas in your car’s gas tank from spilling all over the street as you drive through town. It seems to do the job. I’m amused that people are outraged that the one they got doesn’t have “BMW” printed on it. It’s not a BWM-brand gas cap. Your shallow friends aren’t going to judge you because you don’t have a branded gas cap. If you’re worried about it, just fill up at night when no one will see you.
The gasket on the original gas cap on my Mini Cooper wore out and I was getting a warning light, so I bought this one and installed it in about a minute. Works so far. I’m not getting that light anymore, and I would say that gas is staying in the tank except that the farther I drive, the less gas I have.
If you send yours to me, I will write “BMW” on it in Sharpie-brand marker and send it back to you if that will make you feel better.

This is not at all what is depicted in the picture. This is false advertising. Nothing on the cap says BMW. My original BMW cap, (just like the one in the picture) has a green neck and a vent hole on the top with the rubber string attached to the vent hole. The cap in the box I just opened is nothing like the one in the picture. It has no vent hole at the top and the rubber string is attached to the side of the cap. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I’m sending mine back.

This cap has been in use for 1 year now on a 2006 BMW X5. No issues. It fits well and look almost like the original except there is no BMW branding on this item. This item is more or less identical to the stock OEM cap that had somehow disappeared during an over night stop on a cross country multi-state trip.
I would recommend it to anyone who needs to replace their gas cap.

April 2014 update – been getting an occasional error message on my BMW dash that the cap needs to be retightened. this was coincident with my installing and portable OBD II diagnostic adaptor that reads OBD codes so I wonder if its the cap or the adaptor somehow triggering the message. Also my car gets 2 or 3 emission fault codes when it gets real cold and they go away in hot weather. I’ll report back if I get no more error messages when the temp warms up.
Seems to fit fine. slightly different twist feel than original OEM but does the job okay . average quality feel to it

2003 BMW 530i. If your warning light “check engine soon” illuminates, especially after filling up the tank, it can be as simple as a burnt out bulb or a gas cap with worn out rubber seals. Take your gas cap off, look at it…if the rubber is cracked or hardened, purchase this product, install it in 2 minutes, if not less…really…it’s that simple. My light went off and has not illuminated since. This product is a perfect fit, simple to install and met all my expectations!
