I ordered 2 of these units for my 1997 Lesabre. At first everything seemed good, but within 3 or 4 months of installation one of the struts developed an annoying noise coming from the upper mount. Fortunately Amazon stood behind the product and quickly sent me a new strut. Unfortunately now less than 1 year after original purchase both struts are making noise when hitting bumps. I have replaced the lower ball joints that I did not think needed replacing, but I was trying to get a definitive answer on what was causing the noise. I now have new Moog ball joints but have the same annoying noise from the struts. In my opinion these things are junk. They are rougher riding than I expected, but the worst thing is the clunking and other noise. I am going to contact Amazon about replacements again. Every time I put on a new strut it costs me $90 for a new alignment.
Update 02/22/19 As expected these struts were outside of the replacement window for Amazon so they referred me to the nearest Tenneco shop. I found an online site so am going to try to work through them. We will see what happens with Monroe’s “limited lifetime warranty”. My hopes are not high.
Update 02/25/19 I contacted Tenneco and they informed me that Econo-Matic strut assemblies carry no warranty from Monroe. All you get is the warranty from whoever sells them to you. Buyer beware.

Took less then an hour per side to put them on my wife’s car. Now it rides great! If you want a good set of struts at a great price I would recommend that you buy these!

I need to replace the front struts on my Buick LeSabre, and was considering buying the same part as had been used previously, the 181822 by Monroe. When I searched for it on Amazon I was reminded by Amazon that I had bought these two times previously, and as I recall, that’s because I replaced left and right sides at different times (when each went soft). So it turns out that the last one I replaced was in 2022, and the previous was in 2015. So one lasted 2 years, the other 9 years. I’ve been wondering why Monroe offers both the 181822 and 171822 for my car, and why the price difference between the two, so I called Monroe’s Helpline and spoke with a guy there. He said the lower-priced 181822 isn’t even made by Monroe, they buy it out and put their name on it, but it’s a lower quality product (wish I had understood that in the past when I bought them. I thought the 171822 was just a newer/better replacement model and the old model was getting discounted and replaced, so I had bought the cheaper). He said the higher priced 171822 is made by them. I don’t think my car will still be around in 2+ more years, so I didn’t like the price of either of these products; I bought something else on another website, for about half as much, but it is claimed to have original-equipment performance (as is the 171822 which they also offer), while the 181822 is claimed to be a bargain-level performance product.
We’ll see if I made a good choice or not. Meanwhile, I believe the 181822 on my driver’s side has been giving me a clunking sound for the last year or so, tolerably but annoying. Good luck choosing !

I liked having the coil spring already on the shocks. No putting my life on line using a spring compressor to remove and install on new shock. The price was low considering the spring is included. The car has 180, 000 already, so economy shocks is a plus. Install was easy and ride was great.
