For a car charger, it doesn’t get any easier than this Sylvania Smart Charger. It has only one button and that is all you need for this battery charger. Once you selected the proper battery type by press on that one button until you get to a picture representation of vehicle and if it is cold outside, the charger will automatically detect the type of charge the battery needs and initiates it’s 9 different steps of charging the battery to it’s optimal capacity. After it has fully charged the battery it will then go into maintain mode where it will constantly monitor the battery and keep a small float charge going to keep the battery at it’s fullest capacity until you need it.

This is one of those products that you don’t know you need until you are able to try it out due to its convenience and effectiveness. I love the display and the fact that it is relatively simple to use once you figure it out for the first time. I had no difficulties figuring this out and it performed wonderfully in order to charge our car battery when we realized it was starting to have issues. Would definitely recommend this as a gift for someone or to keep for yourself in your car just in case as you can never be too careful!

The Sylvania 6 amp charger is made in Vietnam. The charger does not do well with bad/marginal batteries, and can overcharge them. I tested this charger on three batteries, and it did well on the two known good batteries, but overcharged the bad one. The charger does get warm, so I would not leave it in the summer sun. The charger does well in maintenance mode, keeping my tractor battery fresh for the last two weeks. This is a good charger, but I would use a separate battery tester to make sure the battery is fine.

This is a nice quality charger/maintainer. As others mentioned it’s not designed for fast charging. What I haven’t seen mentioned is that’s intentional and a positive thing. Typically people buy these as a primary purpose to maintain battery charges on equipment not used often and/or stored for the season. This protects the battery not only from loss of charge, but loss of capacity as well. Also, charging a battery slower is both better for most batteries and results in a full charge vs. high amp chargers that typically shut off before reaching a full charge to prevent over charging which damages the battery.

After seeing my old and heavy charger is about on its last leg. I thought that it would be better to get ready and ahead for a item like this than waiting until my actual old one breaks and scrambling to find one in emergency.
I picked out the Sylvania 6amp 12volt battery charger and maintainer.
Right off the bat I picked this for its simplicity, one button yet its ability to have 9 stages on full auto.
It can toggle between vehicle and motorcycle and also if in freezing temps or no. It has a handy hook in the back built in.
It has a IP65 rating.
When charging it can go up to 6amps at the max charge rate of 110AH or 160AH for maintenance.
The minimum capacity it can do it 4AH.
It can charge lead acid, gel, calcium, Efb, Agm and Li-ion batteries.
It plugs into the wall and with the battery you get both O rings for motorcycles or alligator clips for vehicles.
The cold weather options emables a higher voltage for increased performance in the cold temps.
It also has a float mode, when its fully charged it will switch over to a long maintenance mode to prevent overcharge.
Overall this is a amazing battery and its abilities are basically everything you need and want in a battery charger. With it being a well known brand, simple yet powerful and smart. Im so happy my old heavy clunker is being replaced by this.
I highly highly recommend this charger if your on the fence, trust me this will not disappoint…

Did what it was supposed to do and bring back my 3v Battery to life. Very easy to use just plug and play. Easy to go thru different settings for car/motorcycle charging. This works for me as I have 3 ATV’s and batteries are always low. The manual does need some improvement, hardly any words and no explanations of what the symbols mean, but the charger is light and works as it should.

It’s been a long time since I got a new battery charger and they have changed – a lot. A major drawback for me was the instructions, if you can call them that. Like so many products today the directions are entirely a graphic format and not entirely clear unless you are totally keyed in to all the arcane symbols and inferences of arrows and ‘attention triangles’. What’s important is that the order of attaching the post clamps, plugging it into a power source and scrolling the choices of modes are critical to make it charge your battery. If you do any of them out of order it just won’t work or will show you an error symbol – without explanation of what the error is. The same symbol can mean reversed poles, out of order plugging it in, dead battery and other possible errors, without clear indication as to what part isn’t right. That’s the price of pictures without any words…any words. I’m older but not stupid and found it frustrating. Once I figured it out by watching online videos for similar products (there is none for this exact charger), it worked quite easily. Easily after hours of missteps, that is. It’s a neat little item and if you have kept up with state-of-the-art digital automatic smart chargers technology you’ll probably laugh at my frustration; if you haven’t prepare to take some time, or to think it doesn’t work. The best part of it is it really is a nice little (if slow at 6 amps) unit and it packs into a little more than the size of a gallon zip bag. I put it in a drawstring mesh bag (see photo) but it doesn’t come with storage. Lose a star for my irritation with the ‘instructions.’ How hard is it to write sentences in instructions?
