I little difficult installing. Small mounting bracket has to be at the exact angle to clip in. Took a few tries. Other than that pistons work great. Just the right amount of lifting force for my tail gate and as well as the proper speed. Some pistons are too powerful and whip up the tail gate. These are well matched for my size car.

Most support struts have a C-clip, not this one. It has a locking wire you have to insert into the socket on the side of the socket.
The problem became apparent when the affected side of the socket is facing the car, which makes inserting the locking wire difficult. A C-clip would have been far easier than trying to re-invent the wheel and failing miserably.

I’m a handy guy and love doing DIY car projects. While I appreciate many people might not understand the clip system on this, it’s pretty easy. Yes… it is not like the OEM system, but truly it is no issue _at all_ to mount these, and have them stay. I’m not a huge product review poster, but seeing some of the feedback inspired me to post. First off, the price is great. Right around what lift gate struts should cost when not from the dealer. They come pre-greased and once you understand this particular clip system will realize it is really easy. It’s simply a matter of ensuring the retainer line that runs at the ball joint goes back in the other hole at the end. I was going to post pictures, but it really is that easy. There is NO drilling to widen the hole required no matter what you may read on other posts. Just ensure it sits fully over the ball. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap it on if your existing ball is rusty – or progresses the ball joint. Make sure the lower armature is twisted fully into the thread part to match the correct mounting angle. You might want to favour the lower (when trunk open) ball to make it even easier. And if you don’t have the helping hand pole ratchet system to keep the trunk open, use a 2×4 cut to the right length to keep it open. And MAKE SURE you are only doing one strut at a time while the old one is still attached. These trunks are heeaaaavyyyy. The trunk now opens even more than it did while it was degrading. Smooth. Just the right resistance and pressure. Highly recommended.

I had one strut which failed on my 09 XC60, was about to get the OEM which is like 3 times more expensive, decided to give this a try. Others say it was a bit difficult to install but i had no issues at all. Quick and easy, the trick is to apply grease on the joint as you install it, without it it won’t get it in easily.

I wanted to eliminate the electric struts because the last new set only lasted 14 months ($500!) . The add just said it fits the 2013 Volvo XC60. They don’t fit. Upon further research, where boxy advertises them in other places they say non electric only. I will have to research changing the mounts.

I bought these to replace worn out original factory struts on the tailgate of our 2015 Volvo XC60. They are junk! No only that, but they are dangerous junk! Got them installed property, opened the hatch, and was standing under it when the hatch came back down on my head! They just don’t have enough pneumatic force to keep a tailgate up. Ordered a different brand, and voila! The hatch stays up.
