This cap fit my 2008 GT-500 well and the install was pretty easy, it only took me two friends about 3 1/2 hours to install. Would have taken allot less time if I realized the fuel would not come out on its own while replacing the cap, we took the precaution of flipping the car on its side to make sure the fuel did not come out while replacing the cap, a precaution that was absolutely unnecessary.

Received a non descript fuel cap in a plain Jane plastic bag. Had no Ford pn#, had no identifying Ford Logo. Fits perfectly and functions like it should. Is it a Ford? Don’t know. Will it last 13 years and 150,000 miles like the original Ford. We’ll see.

After living through several aftermarket replacement failures and their associated fitment issues (which sometimes even triggered a gas evaporative control check-engine code, P00455), I sought out an OEM replacement. Ordered this item, received it promptly, fit/function is PERFECT, and it even includes the retaining strap (which pushed easily into place). Yes, it costs more, but less than what I spent on multiple aftermarket caps that were junk (might as well have just stuffed a rag in the tank opening).

Fuel cap came in a Ford Motorcraft box and the fuel cap fit my 2005 Ford F150. There were no directions for removing or installing the lanyard that keeps the cap attached to the vehicle. I unscrewed the old lanyard with needle-point pliers, but I just pushed in the plastic fastener of the new cap lanyard. Maybe I could have just pulled out the old fastener, which looks like a plastic screw. So far the “check fuel cap” light is still on, but several reviewers said it takes a few days for the light to go out.
But after several weeks, the “check fuel cap” light stayed on. Then I remembered reading online that disconnecting the battery will reset the vehicle computer. So I removed the negative cable for a minute and then reconnected it–and the light went off and the normal message returned. I had to reset the clock and the radio presets. I would suggest writing down the radio frequencies to make this task easier.

I replaced a 1 year old after market locking fuel cap with this. I had an issue with some people trying to steal my gas so I replaced my original fuel cap with an aftermarket after being assured by the parts store it would work just as the original did; the would be thief didn’t get any gas as newer cars have some sort of screen to prevent siphon hoses from entering the fuel tank but still I thought a locking cap deterrent would be a good idea.
Almost immediately I was having my check engine light come on as the aftermarket cap kept not sealing the fuel tank properly. I moved recently to a better neighborhood and felt I didn’t need the locking gas cap so I went back to the original Motorcraft fuel cap the vehicle was originally equipped with.
To anyone looking for a locking cap… Motorcraft does sell them for about $30 or so here on Amazon; I recommend these over the $15 aftermarket locking fuel caps. Its worth the extra money to ensure your vehicle’s fuel system continues to operate properly.
