I order 3 of the mounting battery charger/maintainers at the same time for 3 different vehicles. I liked the fact that these mounted permanently to the vehicle, that way I never had to case do where I left it (or where my son barrowed and left it). But when I removed the charger from the Amazon box, I heard a weird rattling noise. And when I actually removed the charger from the box, I realized the noise was coming from the inside of the battery charger. So I decided to remove the screws on the backside of the charger to see what was rattling around inside. Once I removed the back of the charger, I dumped out 4 screws & a bunch of plastic parts that mounted the control board to the inside of the of the unit. It seemed as though when it was assembled someone over tightened the mounting screws and broke the plastic mounting tabs inside the unit. Unfortunately all 3 units that I ordered had the exact same problem. I really liked the price and the functionality of this charger, but I was afraid if I ordered 3 more I was going to see the exact same issues. So I just returned them for a refund and ordered a different brand that Unfortunately did not have the same functionality.

Unit comes with no manual or real recommendations for mounting, operating temperature, etc. I have installed other versions of these maintainers, but I never saw one that cautions you about ‘Overcharging’ and it specifically states ON THE BACK of the charge to ” Not Overcharge the battery. The stupid video that accompanies the device states that it comes with ‘clamps’ but none were included, only the eye ringlets that you permanently fasten to the battery. So I mounted it to the top of the battery using heavy duty zip ties and we’ll see how that works.

I had modest hopes for this budget charger/maintainer and hoped that with the Schumacher name I would be pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately this has been a total disappointment!
My biggest mistake was not immediately inspecting the item. I am now out of my return window. When I opened it today I noticed a rattle inside the body of the charger. I took it apart to find 7 of the 8 potential screws with broken mounts. 🤬
I tried to make lemonade and used some RTV to glue the board in place. I’m not sure how I’ll secure the bottom yet but hopefully I’ll get it sealed.
Poor product design and build. Will probably not buy anything Schumacher again as this is my second bad experience with their products. (See other review)

I used this to keep a trickle charger on my zero-turn. First of all it fits in your palm (take that with a grain of salt, I wear a size large glove) but still it is pretty small. I had zero issues finding a mounting spot on the chassis close enough to the battery to permenantly install it. I’m sure there are those who wouldn’t do that but there’s no harm in having a float charger on your mower all year long. It gets cold here and I know if I left it up to the elements it wouldn’t start in the spring.
I’m going to be getting a second one for the Cub Cadet and call it a day. Great product and very easy to operate. Just plug it up. It’s waterproof so as long as the connection to the extention cord is protected you don’t have anything to worry about. I would still throw a tarp over everything if you’re storing something outdoors though. Great build quality as well. I’m not going to test the durability unless it happens by accident but it feels substantial in the hand. It’s not overly heavy but solidly made.
