This seal remover and installer worked just fine. It seems that earlier issues with the seal installer have been resolved. I replaced the shifter seal in a 06 GTO which has a long style shifter shaft. Even with the trans crossmember removed it was extremely tight fit. Once the tool was in place it dug right into the old seal. Remember to clean and remove any burrs on the shifter shaft especially where the shift lever bolts to it and always lube seals before installation. Good luck

Like everyone said you must open up the removal and intaller tool using a 1/2 drill bit. The removal tool was ok to open up using the 1/2 drill bit. But the installer tool was really hard to drill out and I just gave up. I just used a 12mm long socket to tap in the seal. Had the seal replaced in 20 minutes, so I’m cool with this tool and it’s short falls. For the price of the tool together with the seal for $14 shipped was a value because taking the transmission to a repair shop would be a whole lot more.

So when I first test fitted the removal tool on the shift shaft of my 78 Chevy C10 turbo 350 transmission, it didn’t fit. I started trying to hammer a pry hook tool in to pierce and pry the seal out. That wasn’t working. I checked out the tool to drive the new seal in, and it fit fine over the shaft. I started thinking…. why would this fit and they make the removal part the wrong size…doesn’t make sense. I tried it again, and with a lot of force by hand, I got it to go over the shaft. Had to tap with a small hammer to get it started (about 1 thread deep) then used a ratchet on the removal tool and a prybar to put some pressure while screwing it the rest of the way in. I stopped when I could see this was no longer driving it further. Tightened the bolt from the other side, and it pulled the seal right out.
I would give 5 stars, but the bolt they give you that you tighten to do the removing was way too short (probably half as long as it needed to be), and I had to go to Home Depot to get a longer one. We’ll see how good the seal ends up being that they provided, but if I had to replace this again with a better seal, it wouldn’t take long now that I worked through the process. All in all, this tool worked well.

Some bad reviews about this but I found it perfect if you take your time and do it right. First, yes it fits snug on shaft but needs to in order to grab seal. De-burr the inside with some Emory cloth first. Clean and de-burr shaft as best you can. Tap on shaft with steel hammer so you can feel it bottom on seal the tap and turn until you feel it pull tight but not too tight. The pull bolt may be too short, mine was so cut a short length of rod like 1/4 threaded rod and slide into tool the add bolt. Turn in bolt and out comes the seal. Easy peasy. Then the seal driver was perfect, just be careful getting seal on shaft, it is tight. Oil it. I bought the OEM seal but seal that came with kit looks good too.

We have to cut a pease from the middle of the Toole as it is too long to work on, however we managed in the end. Good quality product.

Extraction bolt is way too short in this kit. It needs to be 5 inches long in order to work. Find another kit that has the correct parts to do the job. I was working on a Chevy Turbo 350. Very disappointed as I had to go buy a longer bolt. I cannot recommend this kit to anyone

The pull bolt was short for me but i dropped a screwdriver bit into the hole before putting the pull bolt in and it worked perfectly after that.
It was tight when sliding it on but a small tap with the hammer got past that rather easily.

I am a diesel mechanic and I work on Allison Transmissions snap on wants triple the price. It works great and now I am ordering 4 more for my coworkers. Highly recommend if you work on GM/Allison transmissions.

Tool threads were damaged right out of the box. Shaft hole wasn’t even round and oval shaped. Driver is too small to fit over a 4L60E Shaft. Also seal was unusable it just push on without even having to tap in.

Did not fit, too small. Maybe with a drill press it could be modified. Huge waste of time. Seal it came with was also of questionable quality.
