I had to solder my old terminal ends on to the new sensor

I found a puddle of sticky glue under my bike and found that the original iginition sensor was on its way out. I saw what the dealer wanted for an OEM replacement so, I decided to see what alternatives were available. While there is some conflicting information out there on this part, I decided to give this a try. Mind you, installing this on a later model Evolution Harley will require you to do some wire splicing and soldering to make work. There is no way the ends on this unit will go into the OEM wire harness plug. I figured at this price, I wasn’t out too much if it didn’t work. It’s important to note where your original sensor is installed as it is adjustable. Make sure you mark the clocked position of your original and make sure to install the replacement in the same position.

I cut the wires about 2/3rds of the way towards the plug and made my splice where it runs along the bottom of the frame. I soldered and used heat-shrink tube to seal up. I plugged in the connector and the bike started right up. The following day, I did a 90 mile ride with no issues. The bike performed as it always had. Time will tell if it holds up. I figured for the price, I can replace with this unit 3 times and still pay less than what the dealer wants for an original. If you have basic, mechanical skills, this should take you less than 30 minutes to replace.

Works well on a 1996 Electra Glide. I had to cut the plug off the old part and attach it to the new sensor. Take a picture when talking the old one off and put the new one in the same spot.
