Glad I got these instead of taking them off an old truck lol. The cable/ fastener ends are sealed with shrink tubing – better than oem! So not going to be thinking about rust any time soon.

These work great as replacement cables for my ford ranger tailgate cables. The biggest problem I had was loosening the T40 bolts. Man they were stuck on there. I originally bought a cheap T-40 screw driver to do this, but ended up using a ratchet and a torch to get it off. So there you go. Get yourself a propane torch and a ratchet and you should be ok.

I returned this product because the cable was longer than the OEM one it was replacing so it didn’t carry any load.
This product would be fine if you are replacing both sides at the same time.

These were fairly painless and easy to install, and although one side seems less taut then the other, I’m sure it will even out in time. It’s nice to finally be able to lower the tailgate again and not worry about having it fall off the truck and onto your foot, or the ground.

Notably a generic part, but fit my 93 Ford Ranger XLT just like OEM equipment. Affordable and functional.

Had to go the local service station that still works on cars to get the bolt released. It took an impact wrench with some power as my cordless drill did not have the umph to get the job done despite having the correct star bit. Easy install after that. Bought a pair. One “seems” longer than the other – I am thinking that is because the tailgate may be slightly distorted from wear and tear. But now I have two cables installed rather than the one I had for so many years following the breaking of the other one. Time will tell about the quality – for 1st appearances it seems to be an acceptable grade.

Needed to purchase a second one to have exact matching length for support but price is reasonable.

Purchased for a 2001 Ford Ranger. Easy install. Fit, length and quality is excellent.

I wish I had known that Dorman tailgate cables were the most like original Ford Ranger ones a year ago . The pic will show the difference between them and another manufacturer that failed on me causing my tailgate to fall off my truck into oncoming Hwy traffic while carrying a load of lumber. Luckily there wasn’t an accident just a road rashed tailgate. I just want to add that they were slightly over packaged from Amazon.

Everybody said don’t buy just one because the new one might be a different length. So I bought 2 of the same part#, and sure enough they were A DIFFERENT LENGTH. One was a full inch shorter than the other. CHEAP Chinese CRAP, and POOR quality control. Stay away from this brand!!!
