I wanted to mount my Vantrue N4 on my dash rather than from my windshield. I have a utility rail on my dash that has a 1″ ball mount built-in. I stuck this mount to the Vantrue mount, trimmed up this mount’s sticky pad to match the Vantrue pad and clamped everything onto the ball mount. It’s been a few weeks in the cold and it hasn’t come loose yet. The rubber sticky pad that comes with this mount is definitely trimable, so it can be cut to shape. Cut at your own risk, though.

There are a bunch of “heavy-duty phone mount” and all that marketing nonsense, and boy I tried a lot of them. This one for sure checks the box for heavy-duty: aluminum made! No plastic and all that. This is metal! Installed it in semi-truck, where vibrations and shakes are present all the time and where a regular phone mount would’t hold for long. I think this is the one to get, if you want to make sure it wouldn’t fall off. There is a lot of movement and adjustment in it, you can make it stay in almost any position with no problem. Yes, it’s not the most slick and aesthetic phone mount, but it’s not made to look slick and aesthetic. It’s made to hold the phone (or truck GPS in my case), and does exactly that. And for less than $15 it’s a steal, compared to +$50 mounts that you can buy from truck-stops. Hand down the most sturdy and well built mount that I’ve used in a semi-truck!

The mount didn’t even stay on the dash of my truck for 2 weeks. I went to put my phone in its spot today and the mount fell onto the floor. I followed the instruction to the letter. I even waited an entire weekend before using it or even moving the truck for that matter. I do, however, like the metal construction much better than the plastic of the Ram mounts and some of the other so-called heavy duty mounts. I love the mounts from this company, as I have several, so I am surprised this one failed. Possibly just a bad batch of adhesive?

I use GoPro and Insta360 action cameras when I ride my mountain bike, and on my motorcycle. On my bike I’ve typically got on mounted to my helmet, and another clamped to my bars. On my motorcycle I use a couple different mounts off of my bars, both of them also happen to be by FANAUE so I was already familiar with the brand. In fact, I’ve tried a variety of different mounts over the years, but when I recently discovered the ones by FANAUE they became my top choice, and the ones I recommend to anyone. I had been looking for a mount I could stick rather than clamp to my motorcycle tail however, and this has proven to be the perfect choice.
Pros:
+ Significantly more gripping area when compared to a standard GoPro mount.
+ Uses standard super strong 3M VHB sticky foam for adhesion.
+ It is an absolutely solid mount when put on a smooth clean surface (I recommend using alcohol to wipe it down first.)
+ Withstands the torque that a camera on an arm exerts on it, most likely due to the large circular base. I’ve lost a GoPro using an arm on a standard GoPro mount that came off.
+ The swivel base locks extremely tightly when secured, and allows for a great range of motion.
+ Works perfectly with any standard 1″ ball. In the photo you can see the FANAUE GoPro style ball mount I use.
+ When the mount is removed, the base it leaves behind is a very subtle small nub.
Cons:
– 3M VHB doesn’t always stick well to non-clean or porous surfaces, but that’s not really a fault of the mount. Conversely, it sticks *extremely* well to clean smooth surfaces, so you really need to be sure of where you are putting it because it’s going to remain there.
Overall, this is an amazing, very high quality, sturdy and practical mount for pretty much anything you can use a standard 1″ ball mount with. I use it with an action camera ball, but you can also use it with a 1/4″ threaded one and mount everything from a radar detector or camera, to just about anything you can imagine, and thanks to the large base it will remain quite secure. For the price this is a great deal, and if you’re looking for a secure mount on a smooth surface, this will absolutely fit that need.
