I love the sound of this muffler. It keeps the sound level reasonably low for driving, but put your foot into and listen to it scream. Sounds great on a VW Golf Mk IV. It should sound good on any VW/Audi 4cyl engine. I’d suspect it would sound good on a VR6 too. Certainly adds a fun factor to my 2.Slow equipped Golf.

I bought because it was advertised as having zero drone on the cherry bomb website. The drone ended up being way too much for a daily so I had to get a stock muffler to replace it. On the highway, even at lower rpm’s, it was just deafening.

This muffler sounds great.. Not too loud and not too quiet.. Noticed the one I had ordered is black powder coated stainless steel.. Though it was aluminized but thats cool.. Not gonna rust or corrode etc… Mine was ordered in the inlet and outlet size 2.5″.. without adapter for bigger or smaller tail pipe it will not fit a non 2.5 exhaust..

I put this on a 91 Cherokee to replace the horrid glass pack that the previous owner put on it. it did quiet it down a good bit but i was a bit disappointed to not hear much of a rumble. I am putting on a new header since my stock one is cracked, The cracked exhaust manifold is louder than the muffler. lol so maybe that will change it up a bit. Will update.

Sounds great on my 1997 Limited 4Runner. Took it to a local exhaust shop to get it installed because I needed new pipes too.

The exhaust broke at a factory weld. The whole exhaust now needs to be replaced. Sounded good for the 3.5 years it was on my 4Runner.

Hesitated for years on a new muffler for my 1998 Toyota 4Runner (3.4L 5VZ-FE V6) and finally pulled the trigger on this one. I wanted something with a little more rumble than stock while not sounding like a ricer or droning on the highway – the Vortex is perfect. Deeper tone from idle on up to about 3k RPM but when you really lay into it all of the high-pitched “ricey” sound is filtered out leaving a near-stock sound. Build quality wasn’t breathtaking but for $30 delivered I wasn’t expecting miracles. All the welds and inlet/outlet were solid so I couldn’t ask for more.
Basically, keeps me entertained on my daily commute with a (nearly) V8 rumble, but 6 hours on the highway is as quiet as stock. Oh yeah… its a third of the price of the other options I considered.

Initially the sound, fit, and finish were great but after only 2 weeks the muffler developed a rattle that has gotten worse and worse over time. I’ve only had it for a month and already have to swap it out. I’ve had great experiences from Cherry Bomb over the years but I have to say I’m a little disappointed. I think I just got a lemon considering no other reviewer seems to have this problem thus the 3 stars. 99% of the time, probably a great product, but my personal experience, not so much.

So my husband and I are both car nuts and after years of modding my Lexus, we finally decided to show some love to our 4Runner. I was a little hesitant to do any kind of “perfomance” mods tho since it’s only a 3.4L & I have seen (heard) my share of awful exhausts on V6s. We went with an Injen intake (awesome, by the way!) and added on this muffler (note: I originally purchased a Bosal tail pipe to go with this, part 467-449, but it was cheaper to just go to AutoZone, get the pipe cut and attach it all with clamps). Like I said in the headline, I was definately concerned about the noise since all I remember from Cherry Bombs was how obnoxiously loud they were. :p But I was pleasantly surprised. It *is* louder than I expected, but only when you get on it. At idle, it’s a barely noticable rumble. Under normal driving, it gives it a nice throaty *aaaaaalmost-like-a-V8* sound. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this setup to anyone looking to beef up their 4Runner.
