I have a custom mount installed in my vehicle with 17mm ball mount size. This narrows the availability of cell phone mounts that I can use since ball mount standard size seems to have changed in recent years. Tried a variety of solutions that just weren’t getting the job done. Also tried a magsafe mount, but because a Jeep Wrangler ride is as smooth as sandpaper it kept falling off. Finally found this less than $10 holder and wow! Build quality is excellent, grip is firm and you can configure in a variety of ways to fit your phone (not just built for ‘one size fits iPhone’).

Got this for my 2014 Ford Focus. It has no horizontal vents or flat surfaces, so this was my only option. It’s super easy to install and doesn’t jostle around, and it has little sticky pads with styrofoam lining to protect your CD port. You can rotate it how you need with ease, removing it for adjustments is easy, the design is simple and effective, and it’s lightweight.

This really is a well-made phone holder. It securely holds my phone in place, and it’s easy to release my phone from the holder. It’s cushioned nicely too to hold the phone tightly while protecting it. Unfortunately, it has fallen out of the cd holder a couple times. Maybe I am not tightening it into place properly. I’m not accustomed to it being in that place either, so I have accidentally knocked it out a couple times too. For the most part, it stays in place, and I really do like it.

In December I got in a car accident and my phone was mounted to this ohone holder, yes did go flying from the impact. But I did find the phone holder, so yes get this phone hold looks flimsy. Nope! Very strong. Would get again as a present!

If you have a CD player in your car that you never use, this is a great phone holder. It slipds into the CD slot and is very secure. I’ve never had it fall out in any way after years of use (I’m on my third one now). It holds small and large phones securely. The side arms slide into place manually. Nothing is automated. No power required except your hand to put in your phone and squeeze the holding arms on the sides. When you want to remove your phone, press the button on the side and the arms slide outward to releate your phone. All in all, it is very simple and because CD players are usually in the center of the console, it places your phone in a very good location. It also has a locking ball and socket joint so you can position it just right.
The problem is that they made a change to the device. My first one worked great. I’m still using it. When I got one for my second car, it “broke.” The arms wouldn’t stay in position when I squeezed it. They kept expanding out. I found that if I tapped it a few times, it would usually start working. Instead of troubleshooting, I purchased a third one. It worked for a while, but then got the same problem. All the while, the first one continued to work just find. So, I took them all apart. The first one has lubricant inside it. The second two do not. So, I put some petrolium jelly in them, around the springs and gears and the push button on the side. I may have put a little too much, but once closed you can’t see any of it. Then, after lubricating them, they work fine. No troubles. So, if you get one of these, expect to remove the four screws on the back, flip it over, carefully remove the front (try not to let the parts all fall out), liberally fill it with lubricant, and put it back together again.
