Its smart. It charged my 12 volt small LiPo. I suspect my battery doesnt have much of a BMS, so I just left it at the lowest setting at 2 amps. Then monitored its voltage. It came up around were my big expensive LiPo with a nice BMS would say full and turn on over charge protection. Here the unit switched off and I heard an audible click. Then I took the battery alligator clips loose and touched them together and no spark. Indicating that was a relay clicking and the leads wont spark against one another. This test indicates to me its a pretty smart charger, since I pitted it against, what i suspect, is a really dumb LiPo BMS (thats the batteries protection brain box). Im thrilled it has the parameters to handle Lipo charging, even the dumb ones, along with Lead acid car batteries. Its light weight too. The repair function looks neat too but I dont have a blown lead acid to test it on at the moment. The fact its there looks promising. Whatever I try Ive never been able to recover one and Not brave enough to try to revive one by attaching an A/C welder to the battery poles. It has one button and will go into repair while charging. I would be careful about that. Especially when charging LiPo. Did it shoot A/C, like the welder trick, into a LiPo? Im not sure but I exited that function quick.

This charger is a solid pick for maintaining both 12V and 24V batteries- SO whether it’s lithium or lead acid 🔋 It’s smart enough to detect the battery type and adjust accordingly, which gives me peace of mind when switching between car, RV, or mower batteries. The 16 amp output charges efficiently, and it hasn’t overheated or caused any issues during long-term use. This Dght Car Battery Charger is what I would consider a modern car battery charger. The reason I say modern is because it is a smart battery charger. It is nowhere near the older dumb battery chargers that just got the job done. Like everything else, technology has entered the car battery chargers. This charger is much smaller than the older square battery chargers and has many more features. In other words, this is a high tech car battery charger.
This charger is capable of charging 6V, 12V, and 24V batteries with a max amperage of 16A. The charger is smart enough to know if it is charging 6V, 12V, or 24V. It also can tell if it is charging Lithium, LiFePO4, or Lead Acid batteries. The charger has a 10-stage trickle charger smart battery maintainer. After a battery is fully charged the charger will go into trickle charge mode.
Safety features include Overcharge Protection, Short Circuit Protection, Over Current Protection, Low Voltage Protection, and Reverse Connection Protection.
The charger has a large LCD screen that provides detailed charging stats. A battery on the LCD screen shows charge completion percentages in quarter percent increments. Four charging modes are selectable with a push of a button: Low, Medium, High, and Repair Mode. I don’t know how repair mode would work. My understanding is once a battery is bad it is bad.
There are some things I don’t like about this charger: The power cord and clamp cable cords are on the short side making using an extension cord a must. The clamp cables are pretty small in diameter. I would imagine they would get warm when charging at 16 Amps. The internal cooling fan is kind of noisy. Finally, I am not sure how well this charger would take a fall being plastic. But then again, plastic is pretty tough stuff now days.
At the time of this review, the Dght Car Battery Charger was selling for $22.96 and had a 6% Coupon making the total cost $21.58. This seems to be a good price for a high tech car battery charger. Time will tell how long it will last. Other than a few complaints, this is a cool modern charger.

The Dght 12V, 16A Smart Battery charger and Trickle Charger is a very light weight, portable Smart Battery Maintainer.
The durable plastic case is small and compact and includes an air blower to cool the electronics. It is somewhat noisy but not that loud.
The length and weight of the power cord and battery connectors is very light weight for the ratings on the device. You must have an outlet close to the point that your charging and there is barely enough length to sit it on an area in the engine compartment. You are limited in positioning the charger to allow it to be easily read.
The display is adequate and of bright LED letters but it continuously, rapidly through a series of data including Current Voltage, Power, and device temperature. A vertical set of bars within a red battery outline illuminate to indicate the percentage of battery charge.
I would not use this device as a shop battery charger because it does not have the capacity to jump start an engine from a dead battery. It does have a reconditioning circuit but I have never had any success with these, even with a much more expensive charger.
I have tested it by topping off a car battery to 100% from 60% and it performed as expected running 16A, 8A, and 2A trickle currents. The case did not get hot in any of these modes.
I will be using it as a trickle charger to maintain the batteries in my lawn tractor and/RV while in storage.
I rated this unit as 3 stars because of the light weight wiring and clamps which seem to be totally inadequate for long term use.
